Absolute monsters. Wayne is a true master. He's the intersection where groove and creativity can collide at the highest levels.

And a tip of the hat to Tracey. She puts up some wonderful videos of NY music, not least her own. Check out the rest of her channel sometime.

Wayne has such confidence to do the outlandish things he does. He definitely brought the the element of *surprise* back into Jazz by going in his own direction rather than ploughing the same old furrows which are now increasingly full of hyper-technical yet derivative noodling. WK usually has some awesome drummers in his trios too. He's written his own book too: *The Improvisor's OS (2nd ed).* 'Operating System' (OS) is not a concept musicians use in music in general let alone improvisational music but his conception, and his live delivery of it, certainly merits it IMO. Another musician doing some astounding explorations - both compositionally and improvisationally - is Tigran Hamasyan. Checkout his pretty phenomenal "Levitation 21" among others. There've been a number of videos of people feverishly trying to work out what time signatures he's employing. TH has also recorded some beautiful versions of Armenian folk music with choral chants. Quite mesmerising. Thankfully with the likes of WK and TH - who are veterans of straight Jazz - we have some new energy and directions.
